Mixed-up Days

"Then comes a Mixed-Up Day. And WHAM! I don't know who or what I am! But it all turns out all right, you see. And I go back to being...me." Dr. Seuss, My Many Colored Days

Today’s summer project: “Text and Spell” word work phones! My husband and I recently got new cases for our iPhones, and the plastic cases-for-the-cases were just too cool to throw away. They had been sitting around for a while when I came across this awesome free download from Teachers Pay Teachers: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Text-and-Spell-Word-Work-iPhones-179706

I printed out a page of black phones, cut one out…it fit PERFECTLY. I couldn’t believe it! So I got out the clear packaging tape and black card stock and went to work. Now I have two awesome, sturdy pretend iPhones for word work. Students use a vis-a-vis marker to write a word in one of the “text” spaces, then pretend to type it (keyboard practice!). I might even loop a cute cell phone dangly thing through the tabs on the tops, as they couldn’t be removed. I’m so pleased with how they turned out, and I know my first graders will LOVE them!
