Mixed-up Days

"Then comes a Mixed-Up Day. And WHAM! I don't know who or what I am! But it all turns out all right, you see. And I go back to being...me." Dr. Seuss, My Many Colored Days

Our second Eric Carle project: A House for Hermit Crab! Along with reading the book, I showed pictures of real decorator crabs, and we separated fact from fiction again. Then we made a list of possible sea creatures or plants that Hermit Crab might use for decoration before starting the art project.

Each student traced a hand to create the crab, and the shell is a paper bowl. Add watercolor paint and scrap paper, and wow, was this ever fun! Most kids stuck to the decorations from the story but a few created their own ideas. Today we will add a writing piece before these go up on the wall!
